Below is a listing of all our events since the cafe launched:

  • Thursday, July 12, 5-6:30pm: Hua Henry Wang plays the classical guitar. His recital will include the music of Bach, Scarlatti, Albeniz and others. Hua will be followed by Maryjo Oster (6:30-8pm) who will sing a variety of songs – from the Beatles, Blind Melon, Kansas, and from her own compositions.
  • Friday July 13th, 5-6:30pm: Charlie Lumpkins will be playing jazz and ethnic music on the keyboard, flute, and exotic instruments. Charlie will be followed by the band Trixie Neptune playing 60s-70s progressive rock. Please join us!
  • Also, July 12 & 13 there will be Massage Therapy at the shop. On both days, Joshua Zong will be giving “Chair Massages” from 2-4pm and Kelly Keefe will be giving “Thai Yoga Massages” from 4-6pm.
  • Tuesdays at 7pm, the newly formed Sangha in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh meets for sitting and walking meditation, discussion, and reading. The “Exploring Buddhism” group continues to meet at noon every Friday.
  • The Wednesday Poetry Readings took a break on July 4th. On July 11th, as part of our “mid-summer madness”, we’ll devote some of the time to a collective reading of excerpts from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream! Readers welcome.
  • On Saturday July 21st from 9am-3pm there will be a Harry Potter day of magic and mischief here. Get your costumes ready and reserve your copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. We’ll feature reading from the new book, movies, skits, yummy treats, and special prizes!
  • On Thursday, July 26th at 7pm we will host a discussion of the book Discourse on Colonialism by Aime Cesaire. The discussion will be led by Jonathon Eburne of PSU’s Comparative Literature department assisted by Ran Mitra. The book is available at East-West Crossings at a 10% discount.
  • Cesaire is best known as “the poet from Martinique” who contributed much to an anti-colonial aesthetic. But he was also a political thinker whose indictment of colonialism became an inspiration to many struggles including civil rights and anti-war movements here. On Wednesday July 25th, we’ll feature some of his poems at the poerty reading session.
  • Our books on sale are featured now. During this period, all 2007 day books 50% off, art posters 25% off and lots of lots of books 30-50% off. Specialty iced teas, homemade scones, and lots of yummy treats.
  • Important Announcement! From July 16th, our summer hours are Mon-Sat 11-7, closed Sunday.
  • On May 24th , Gary Weber presented his book Happiness Beyond Thought at East-West Crossings, followed by a lively discussion, much contemplation and book signing by
the author. We hope Gary can return with more food for thought
